Anglers have been traveling to Xcalak for years but most of you have never heard of this little known location.  Just north of the country of Belize, situated on the Caribbean coastline, is this small fishing village. 

The Lodge:

Your destination fishing lodge will be the Hotel Tierra Maya, is a small family owned business.  The owners live on site to make sure that every need is taken care of.  The hotel has six rooms all facing the Caribbean.  Although air conditioning is available in a few of the rooms, it is of little need.

The Fishing:

Chetumal Bay offers some exciting fly fishing for bonefish and permit.  Just 15 minutes from the hotel you could be casting to that first bonefish or permit of the day.  The lagoon area has some exciting tarpon fishing to complete that “Grand Slam”.  Very few anglers visit this area due to it remoteness which means there is very little fishing pressure.  Many fishing options are available to the fly fishing angler; poling around countless miles of flats, wading hard sand or grassy flats or wading the murky bottom for some of the larger bonefish.  In the deeper water adjacent to the flats you could encounter schools of permit.

How to Get There:

The easiest way is to fly to Cancun and it would be best to arrive before noon.  Late arrivals in Cancun could require you to overnight in Cancun before making your way down the coast to Xcalak.  From Cancun you have several options; rent a car or make arrangements through us to have a private van to drive you to Xcalak.  The drive takes about 5-6 hours.  The highway is paved and in good shape except for the last few miles once you arrive in Xcalak.  Prices for transportation are listed below.
