Saltwater Leaders & Knots

Saltwater fly fishermen are constantly searching of the next best knot or leader when it comes to ease of tying, durability and strength.  Leo Gutterres, long time saltwater enthusiast, has taken the furled leader to a new level.  He has transformed this twisted concept to made two unique leaders.

The basic leader, “Easy Tie Twisted 3 Stage Tapered Leader”, will be used where conditions call for the use a standard tapered leader.  The basic leader can be made from any lbs test material up to 20 lbs.   The advantage to this one piece leader is the built in stretch that comes from the twisted material, this enables you to apply more pressure when fighting bigger fish.  Since the butt section of the leader is larger that a standard tapered leader, you should have no problem turning over any fly.  Leo claims that the way this leader is constructed it will turn over a chicken.

The next leader is the, “Easy Tie Twisted Big Game Leader”.  This leader is used in combination with a bite section and is tied with any hard finished 20 lbs material.  What this leader gives you is the ability to change your bite section easily according to the conditions that you are fishing.  There is only two knots in this entire leader, the first when making the leader and the second when tying in the bite section.  It couldn’t get any simpler.  The bite section is tied in with a “No-Name Knot”.
