Variety is the word describing Ascension Bay and the flats at Boca Paila. It's common to see bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda all in the same day, all year around! We will be going down again, in 2007, looking for that "Grand Slam".
In a matter of
minutes from the boat dock, you can be fishing on one of many productive flats for
bonefish south of the lodge. Or head north to the flats at El Rio or Boca Paila
which are surrounded by mangroves that help to protect you from the wind. Both
locations are well know for there bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda.
The guides at Pesca Maya are all professional native guides, with many years of experience. They all know the area like the back of their hand and will put you on the fish. Some speak fairly good English, other speak "fishing" English. The flats boats are local made "pangas" with outboard motors and they are immaculate. Each boat is will suited for fly fishing, with a spacious and clean platform.
You will be lodged in
one of eight thatched roof Cabanas, each with two beds, electricity, complete bathrooms
and showers with hot and cold running water. Less than 50 yards from your cabana is
the green turquoise Caribbean, where you can walk the beach or take a swim. For the
more adventurous, a barrier reef protects the waters for some good snorkeling.
The gentle winds that blow in the evening will be enough to keep you cool all
night long. The beautiful thatched Large Palapa will be the center of attention for
exquisite meals, cold drinks, and the days fishing stories. It's a great place to
relax after fishing after a long day fishing. You might even want to take advantage
of the well stocked fly tying bench, just to make sure that you have that "Killer
Fly" for the next days fishing.

While Pesca Maya is
one of the premier lodges on Ascension Bay, the prices are extremely reasonable,
especially considering the lodge's location at the heart of Ascension Bay, its wonderful
ambience, the quality of the facility, its staff , guides and equipment. Whether you stay
and fish at the lodge for only three days or a week, you will be glad you picked Pesca
Maya.
