Trinity River Recap
2007
Quite simply, you should have been there!
This had to be one of the best steelhead seasons on record for the Trinity River. The timing of the trip was almost perfect; catching the tail end of the large steelhead migration. All week we were all to find many, many willing steelhead to take our flies. The best flies were: red copper john’s, pheasant tail nymphs, hairs ear nymphs, etc all in size #14.
Our cook for many years retired last year leaving us to do it alone. Thanks to Kathy for putting together a simple but hearty menu that Joe and I could prepare in a short time. To say the food was good would be an understatement.
A little kindness rubs off. It seemed like the Trinity River was on everyone’s radar screen this year, no thanks to all of the reports on the bulletin boards. Even with all of the heavy walk in traffic plus all of the boat traffic everyone seemed to get along. I can’t tell you how many times anglers commented to me about how polite everyone was on the river. This is an attitude that I hope will continue on the Trinity; it’s a multi use river, everyone is there to have fun whether you are a walk in or in a boat.
