Pesca Maya
March 2003
With the war looming, and the country focused on what was going to happen in the mid-east, our small group still managed to have a great time. Upon our arrival at the lodge the other anglers were asking what was going on with the war. It was the topic of conversation at every meal. One night, they wired up the TV in the main lodge so we could get an update. It was good to hear but chilling to know that we were a long ways from home and could do nothing from where we were in the jungle.

Never the less, this is one lodge that I completely enjoy. The location, atmosphere, guides, and of course the fishing. Pesca Maya has it all, bonefish, tarpon, snook and permit. What else could you ask for!

Bob N. a first time flats fisherman, managed to hook bonefish everyday, his partner Frank R. a long time flats fisherman were a great team and a tremendous coach for Bob. My partner, George, has been to Pesca Maya several times and knows the routine. We decided to make some long runs to Santa Rosa flats, that paid off big time. The flats were loaded with bones. George was having a hard time casting in the wind, I guess at 80 years old you can’t complain. With good weather one day, we managed to make a run to Santo’s bay. What a beautiful place and no other anglers. This could be a future winter destination, I’ll keep you posted.
